PS – We’ll be posting the TRX 40-40 lower body challenge in a couple of days…

I’ve been getting some emails/facebook messages about different workouts so I thought I’d post today’s training session here on the blog.
(BTW – make sure you join my facebook page HERE)

Today’s workout was a combination of the TRX and a couple of kettlebells. The weather was beautiful so I trained in the backyard this morning.

Here’s what I did today (for videos of the exercises- click HERE): Read the rest of this entry »

I was first introduced to the term self-limiting exercise a few years ago while speaking with Gray Cook (we were teaching together at a Perform Better one-day event).

Gray was talking about the book “Born to Run” By Christopher MacDougall and the barefoot running idea.

Running barefoot is what can be classified as a self-limiting exercise – the body cannot over-stride or heel strike because the immediate feedback – pain – auto-corrects the form of the runner. In fact, it is completely self-limiting as there is no way of creating overuse injuries either – the foot and the joint impacts of running will prevent that as you’ll stop running. You can’t do it incorrectly. Read the rest of this entry »

Fitness Anywhere Randy Hetrick had a problem.

As a special ops squadron commander deploying on ships, submarines and safe houses, he needed a way to keep his team in world-class shape without having access to world-class gyms.

So during a deployment in Southeast Asia, Hetrick grabbed some parachute webbing and began stitching away.

He anchored the straps, and, using his body weight for resistance, started doing presses. And flys. And curls. Read the rest of this entry »

My good friend Fraser Quelch came up with this “on the road” workout when he was recently in Shanghai at a seminar. We’ve nicknamed it “Shanghai Dangerous” — check it out!

PS – check out a huge TRX exercise video library – HERE

I’ve been traveling a lot recently. Like a lot of you I’m busy and find it hard to get to the gym when I’m on the road. so I have to use bodyweight exercises to maximize my training when I’m short on time and on equipment.

Then when I get home, I have so much work that I need to catch up on, so even with short workouts, traveling to the gym and back adds some more time that I really can’t afford right now. So I’ve started to do more home workouts.

Enter the TRX – which was recently voted the “Best Total Body Training tool” by Men’s Health magazine.

We had the Fitness Anywhere team out at our facility early last year to train our staff and show us some cutting edge bodyweight training.

After this training I picked up a TRX for my own use and have started doing some Metabolic Resistance Training workouts on the road and at home (actually out in the backyard) in place of some of my metabolic workouts that are traditionally done at the gym.

Here’s what I did yesterday (click the link for videos):

Circuit one:

TRX single leg squat (each leg)
TRX Inverted Row
TX Chest press

Perform as many sets of 6-8 reps as possible in 15 minutes (I got seven rounds).

Circuit two:

TRX suspended lunge
TRX Atomic Push up -( a push-up prone jacknife combo)
TRX Power pull

Perform as many sets of 6-8 reps as possible in 15 minutes (I got six rounds)

Trust me – this was tougher than it looks – took 30 mins – and hit a ton of muscle, and burned a ton of calories. It was a fantastic workout and the TRX is a fantastic tool.

Take advantage of the good weather that’s starting to arrive (at least in California) and get outside for some of your workouts.
